Summer Special: Manager Boot Camp is open for the summer cohort
SUMMER SPECIAL
Manager Boot Camp is open for the summer cohort.
Welcome back to “NEXT LEVEL Leadership”! Over the past four months, you’ve learned about TC&A’s NEXT LEVEL Leadership Tools — and this summer, we’re opening the doors to something special.
Manager Boot Camp was built to close one of the most common and most costly gaps we see and hear about in organizations: the space between being promoted into management and actually knowing how to manage.

*Management isn’t a natural byproduct of a promotion.
It’s a skill set — and for the other 9 out of 10 of us, it has to be built on purpose.
THE WHY
Many moons ago, I (Chelsea) was a first-time manager. It was the late 2000s, and I was eager to take on more responsibility at a new hotel in Beverly Hills. Almost overnight, my responsibilities expanded and so did leading people. Different personalities, perspectives, communication styles, and ways of working quickly became apparent.
I’d been part of teams my entire life as an athlete and had worked in hospitality throughout college, but no one had taught me how to lead people at work. Like so many new managers, I learned through experience, mistakes, and on-the-job trial and error. It’s worth noting, I did have a competitive advantage for my starting place, thanks to Tess!
Fast forward to the last decade at TC&A. We’ve coached nearly 1,000 leaders, and we’ve watched the same pattern repeat itself: high-performing individual contributors get promoted into management…and then no one teaches them how to lead.

This is why Manager Boot Camp was born.
At TC&A, we believe investing in manager development isn’t just a people initiative; it’s a business results initiative. Manager Boot Camp was created to bridge the gap between average managers and high-performing leaders who build stronger teams, better cultures, and better business outcomes.
A STORY WE OFTEN SEE AND HEAR
A pattern that shows up again and again in Leadership Coaching meetings:
A capable individual gets promoted because they were excellent at their job. They are hard-working and know the work inside and out. Leadership sees their capabilities within the production of their work and hands them a team.
Almost overnight, the job changes completely, and the skills that got them promoted aren’t the full set of skills their new role actually requires. Instead of doing great work, they’re now:
- Responsible for holding their team accountable for doing great work effectively and efficiently
- Difficult conversations get avoided when work within the team is not meeting expectations
- Delegation feels impossible, because it feels faster (and safer) as a manager to just do the work on their own.
Quietly, a manager starts drowning, while leadership, along with their team, assumes they should already know how to manage.
The shift doesn’t come from working harder or waiting for a team member to “just get it.” It comes when the manager stops and turns the lens on themselves: they are able to ask these two questions:
- “What is working well within managing my team?
- “What can be working better within managing my team?”
These two questions, asked consistently, along with specific and practiced tools change the outcomes and experiences for everyone.
- Conversations a manager used to dread gets easier with new communication skills.
- The work a manager used to hoard, sees the capabilities of others who are responsible and uses new delegating skills.
- The work a manager used to hoard, sees the capabilities of others who are responsible and uses new delegating skills.
- A manager who used to dread challenging conversations builds confidence to have conversations that build clarity.
Tools are exactly what Manager Boot Camp provides participants over six weeks this summer.
WHAT’S AHEAD THIS SUMMER
Manager Boot Camp is a 6-week program — five tool-building sessions plus one review session — designed for new and emerging managers who are ready to lead with intentional skills instead of hoping things will get better as time goes on (they rarely do without new skills).
Across the program, you’ll work on:
- Leading yourself, first
- Staying open and willing to grow
- Modeling responsibility and holding others accountable
- Delegating with relationship-building in mind
- Taking care of your whole well-being — not just performance!
