NEXT LEVEL CONNECTION – REBUILDING BROKEN TRUST
Welcome back to Your Choice! Your place for trusted, effective leadership tools and resources. We are here to be your coaches and your guides as you expand in being the “Leader of Yourself, FIRST.”
As we continue to explore TRUST, we are mindful of the additional complexities and challenges that arise at work and in your personal lives around the holidays. As you read on, allow this to be a reflection and blueprint for how you can Lead Yourself, First, as we finish 2025…..
We’ve all experienced moments when trust was shaken — in ourselves, in a colleague, or within our organization. When that happens, the opportunity isn’t in perfection; it’s in repair.
Rebuilding trust starts from the inside out.
Before we can rebuild external trust with others, we must first rebuild internal trust — our belief in our own reliability, truth, and integrity. When internal trust falters, fear often takes over. Our nervous system reacts before our leadership does. The brain’s amygdala triggers fight, flight, or freeze — all protective, but none productive in the long run.

When that happens, pause. Breathe. Return to your internal mantra: “Trust begins within me.”
Internal Trust: The Foundation for Repair
Rebuilding trust internally means noticing where fear or control has replaced curiosity or courage.
It means asking:
- What story am I telling myself about this situation?
- Am I leading from my higher mind (clarity) or my survival mind (reactivity)?
- What can I do today to restore my own integrity and confidence?
Self-trust is not perfection.
It’s self-awareness practiced consistently.
Every time you pause instead of react, listen instead of defend, you strengthen your internal trust muscles.

External Trust: Rebuilding the Bridge
Once you’re grounded in self-trust, you can rebuild trust with others more authentically.
Rebuilding external trust is an act of leadership — not management. It’s about aligning intention with impact.
When trust breaks down, try these three steps:
1 –
Own your part.
Acknowledge where the gap between your intention and your impact may have caused confusion or hurt.
2 –
Re-establish clarity.
Communicate expectations and agreements transparently — clarity rebuilds safety.
3 –
Stay consistent.
Repetition of trustworthy actions rebuilds belief faster than promises.
Every action you take becomes a small deposit into the trust bank
— and consistency compounds.

Internal + External Trust in Action
Internal trust influences external communication.
When you trust yourself, your communication becomes clearer, calmer, and more confident.
When you doubt yourself, communication becomes reactive or guarded.
Next Level Leaders understand this duality:
Internal trust is the root. External trust is the fruit.
As you rebuild, consider where your focus is needed most:
- Do I need to rebuild trust in myself?
- Or, do I need to rebuild trust with others?
Both begin with awareness — and both lead to stronger connection.
This Week’s Reflection Prompts
- Where do I feel trust has been tested in my leadership?
- What behavior, boundary, or conversation can rebuild safety?
- How can I, “Lead Myself, FIRST” through clarity and compassion?
Next Level Culture grows stronger after trust is tested — if, we choose to rebuild rather than retreat.
This Week’s Action: Identify one relationship — personal or professional — where you can practice repair. Start with honesty and compassion — and remember, rebuilding trust begins within you.
We’d love to hear from you, respond to this email with how you are rebuilding trust so we can further support you.
