We’re curious, how intentional are you being with your time and energy?
Are you staying engaged and present as the world reopens, busyness returns and the possibility of over scheduling seems almost inevitable?
“It is not always one big step, but a few steps forward.”
~ Denise Junqueiro
This week we have the pleasure of sharing parts of the transformational story of one of our original clients – Denise Junqueiro. Denise and Tess met in 2014 when she was a fellow attending the California Agriculture Leadership Foundation program. Tess was a part of restructuring the Ag Leadership learning and seminars and provided the Leadership Coaching for the program. In fact, Denise was a great support when Tess Cox & Associates was just beginning to launch the business.
We lead ourselves and our business by TRUSTING the foundation of our CHARACTER. As our client's learn to TRUST their own personal and professional integrity - they experience greater success by staying true to who they are AND through making decisions that are best for their organizations, teams and employees.
We're curious to know, "Do you have a word that is your focus for the 2025 New Year?"
Last week we mentioned the most helpful question to ask when new tasks and responsibilities come up within your team:
is this urgent or is this important?
In fact, that question was posed earlier this year in a cohort we were coaching through The Engagement Blueprint. The question reinforced how important it is to ask – it’s on everyone’s mind when given a new task, project or goal.
It’s likely that most of the work you do is very important. At the same time, it may or may not be urgent. Click here for a quick coaching video on how to discern. Considering the time of day you have your best energy may influence how urgent a certain task, project or goal is. Considering your energy will help you to prioritize so you can utilize your mindset, behaviors and strategy within your peak performance times. (Note: we all have peak performance times.)
“The Find Your WHY Program has influenced the decisions I’ve made in such an important part of my life! As I make decisions about my future, I can use my leadership techniques that I have learned, through this program to make more beneficial choices. I have met a wonderful group of leaders and mentors that have my best interests in mind and have helped me learn about myself, and how I can play an impactful role in everything that I do.”
“Processing Information. Decision Making. FIND YOUR WHY Mantra’s!”
Our Find Your Why program for Sr.’s in High School will have its last meeting on June 7th of this year. It’s been an incredible year with our student’s who have learned more about who they are, how they process information, make decisions and organize the things that are most important to them for the best of outcomes.
Every day, our seniors who participate in the Find Your WHY program have an opportunity to CHOOSE “how” they are going to make the best decisions for their current lives and future careers.
Within the context of WHO they are with the support of their Myers/Briggs personality preferences, they are able to understand and positively choose:
At TC&A we want you to feel GOOD.
We want you to feel BETTER than you even thought possible.
We want you to sustain your ENERGY and prevent burnout, while doing the work you love and creating the life that is the most meaningful to you.
So, you may be wondering how do I achieve the “feeling GOOD and BETTER,” while sustaining my ENERGY and remain effective and productive? You may be thinking, “I have so much to do, I can’t possibly fit in another task or commit to one more thing.”
We are grateful for our FYW Students who are committed to creating good, positive, thoughtful, engaged, connected and purposeful lives as they create their YOUBoards. The sample YOUBoard was created by our own FYW Coach, Kattie Schmidig.
The YOUBoards are a part of our FYW students personal SELF-CARE and reflect what is most meaningful and encouraging to them. There is no “right or wrong” in what they create with their YOUBoard. What is most important is that it reflects who they are with their personality preferences, what they enjoy and what keeps them motivated to stay engaged and connected with their family, friends, life and part-time work and extra curricular activities. The visual YOUBoard creates their reminder of “how to” SELF-CARE when things are difficult and challenging. They know there is a community surrounding them that cares for and believes in them.
There is a sense of freedom and belonging to our own self when we have the ability to stay true to who we are and choose to:
“Lead Our Own Self…FIRST.”
From the beginning of TC&A’s business model, we have sought to coach with the foundational concept to be free and…
“LEAD Our Own Self…FIRST.”
This phrase was birthed when writing, “The Leadership Blueprint – Becoming the Architect of Your Life and Work.” From the very beginning, our “WHY” for writing “The Leadership Blueprint” was to “LEAD Our Own Selves…FIRST.” I know this may sound redundant and yet, this mindset is the catalyst for every facet of my life, my building strong relationships and career. Truly, I was inwardly led to belong, lead and trust my inner being, which in turn has set me free to live and work with greater confidence. It has provided meaningful experiences for our coaching clients, as well.
Yes, each and every one of us has experienced “real life” Leadership opportunities and challenges in 2020.
With each new day, we all had the opportunity to choose to “rise above” our challenges and look for new opportunities and ways of doing things. We had the choice to embrace creating good from the challenges and bring hope and belief for our future opportunities.
We know the 2020 Year was filled with heartbreaking obstacles. We understand that defeat may have been knocking on your doorstep and it may have gotten the best of you. We acknowledge the power of discouragement when there does not seem to be hope on the other side of our life / work experiences.
We began our first group for the Find Your WHY program in 2019. At that time, our seniors, engaged in a pilot program to learn, grow and understand more about themselves and what they were passionate about for their future lives and careers. As I (Deanna), reflect back on that first year, “I attribute the giving of my time to being in ‘the right place’ and living with ‘working on behalf of my passion’ to be the utmost of rewarding experiences. Working with our FYW teens and watching them grow is an investment that leads me and keeps my hope alive for the future of our teens – they are truly AMAZING!”
As we celebrate the Holiday Season with “YOUR LEADERSHIP IN GIVING…MATTERS,” your Emotional Intelligence (EQ) recognizes your own emotions and manages your emotions, along with the ability to recognize the emotions of others and manage their behaviors, as well. Overall your EQ leads and manages your relationships in ALL seasons. Truly, a “GIFT” your leadership is to ALL who know YOU!
At TC&A, we celebrate your leadership all year long, as we work together with you individually, in small groups, your Teams, Board and your Business. The Holiday Season gives us a new opportunity to support “YOUR LEADERSHIP IN GIVING...MATTERS” far beyond what we experience within the Leadership Coaching context.
As the Company’s leadership looked toward the end of this year, they shared a different approach for this holiday season. Who would have imagined back in March that we’d still be living in a world dominated by a global pandemic? Given the current environment and restrictions, the company made the decision to not hold in-person holiday parties at the various locations in California, Kansas, Nevada, Hawaii and Colorado. The disappointment was shared by many of us who look forward to getting together with colleagues during the holiday season.
The teens receive coaching, seminar, supplies and gifts ($1,500. Value) at NO COST to them. The FYW program is designed for 9-10 students each year. Each student is responsible for applying to the program. There are 2 -3 High Schools represented each year, as well.
Our teens value their FYW learning experience and look forward to providing value based, emotional intelligent and competent leadership skills towards their future college and career.
FYW would value YOUR HOLIDAY LEADERSHIP GIVING as a SPONSOR for our 2020/2021 FYW program. If, you would like to give a tax-deductible contribution in support of FYW teens, please send checks to:
As we enter the month of November, THANKSGIVING is on our minds and taste buds (one of our favorite times of year). We are reflecting on all of the years we have enjoyed family and friends around our THANKSGIVING table. There are many memories that we have collected over the years, as our family and friends have gathered around our THANKSGIVING table and given thanks for the abundance of goodness, kindness and generosity for those who have prepared an incredible meal and for those who have provided a welcome setting. Our being together is life giving.
On Saturday, September 26th, Deanna van Klaveran and Kattie Schmidig hosted our first 2020 “Find Your WHY” Seminar. I (Tess) participated remotely via Zoom. It was a wonderful, social distanced success!
As the students GATHERED together, they were fully energized to be together. Envision all 9 students who are extraverts – they enjoyed connecting, being a part of a group, expressing themselves to others and being active.
We are mindfully aware of the devastation, loss of life, loss of homes and businesses that the fires in California, Oregon and Washington have created.
We are thoughtfully aware of the difficulties that Covid-19 has brought to our lives and the way we do business.
We are considerate of the continued choices, decisions and processes that you face daily.
Motivation may be the last thing on your mind. And yet, motivation can be the very thing that gets you up in the morning, embracing a new day and setting your mind and intentions to what you can control – Your attitude and your actions.
During this time…we stand with you as you process, reflect and think about how you can STRENGTHEN YOUR MOTIVATION in and thru to the end of this year. We know it can be hard, challenging and at times, daunting…
I have always been MOTIVATED to be of service to others. It is a core piece of who I am. It's why I thrived working in hospitality and it's what drives me to continue supporting others on their professional journeys. When the pandemic hit, I knew there would be a unique opportunity to:
Not just share my own story with how I overcame burnout
BUT, how I choose to live with sustainable energy and a positive mindset.
